Goals:

  • Learn anatomy of the lungs and function of the respiratory system
  • Discuss diseases such as asthma and emphysema
  • Learn the relationship between good health, fitness and the respiratory system


Classroom Activities:

  • Find the heart rate in different parts of the body
  • Pass around a model lung for all to see and feel
  • Create a “respiratory tree” on the floor
  • Build a model lung to take home that simulates breathing
  • “Operation Time”- removal of the lungs


Homework:

  • Complete the “Tree of Influence” that identifies tobacco influences in a child’s environment
  • Complete daily physical activity calendars in classroom
